Hans Kotter (born 1966 in Mühldorf am Inn, Bavaria) is a German artist internationally known for his work in the fields of light art, photography, and installation.
Kotter’s work explores the interplay between light, color, and space. He frequently uses mirrors, LEDs, and photographic techniques to create dynamic light installations and sculptures that challenge the viewer’s perception.
He is considered one of the leading light artists of his generation. With his innovative use of materials and perception-driven aesthetics, he continues to gain international acclaim.
Education and Career
• 1993–1994: Studied at the Art Students League in New York under Bruce Dorfman and William Scharf
• 2001–2003: Completed further studies at the MediaDesign Academy in Munich
• 2007–2013: Lecturer at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart
Since 2003, Kotter has lived and worked in Berlin.
