Enrique Asensi was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1950. From 1972 to 1977, he studied at the Acadèmia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos, Valencia. Asensi is part of the great tradition of Spanish sculpture. In his sculptures, he combines the two classical materials of steel and stone. Corten steel contrasts with stones as different in colour as diabase, dolomite, granite, limestone or alabaster. Asensi sees and thinks of sculpture from the surface. He composes spatial pictorial views. The flatness of the steel contrasts with the sculpturally designed relief-like surface of the stone. The colour valeurs of steel and stone form a harmonious whole. In addition to the macro view of the overall sculpture, Asensi creates various micro views of details such as vistas, slits, curves and layers. Born in Valencia in 1950, the sculptor Enrique Asensi lives and works in Barcelona and Cologne. Asensi’s works can be found in numerous collections and exhibitions, and he is also present in public spaces in both Germany and Spain with various sculptures.
